Pathway types we install
Front paths (pavement to door)
The first impression. We work in any surface — block paving to match a future driveway, limestone/sandstone for character, resin for smooth modern look. Usually 1.2–1.5m wide.
Side access paths
Between house and fence line, often forgotten, quickly become mossy mud tracks. We lay proper base + surface, include drainage, avoid the damp wall problem.
Garden paths
Connecting patio to shed, vegetable garden, studio. Gravel, stepping stones, block, timber — depends on the garden style.
Accessibility paths
Wheelchair-friendly gradients (max 1:12), slip-resistant surfaces, handrails where needed. We consult on Part M compliance for private homes.
Pathway pricing in Hartford
- Standard front path (5m x 1.2m): £800–£1,600
- Side access (10m x 1m): £1,100–£2,200
- Garden path network: priced by linear metre — typically £90–£180/m
Paths and drives together:
If you're doing the drive anyway, add the paths while we're on site. Saves 25–40% vs. hiring twice. Single guarantee covers the lot.
Materials for paths
- Block paving — matches most drives, easy to repair, classic.
- Indian sandstone — natural character, blends with any garden.
- Porcelain — modern premium; sharp edges, frost-proof.
- Resin bound — seamless, contemporary, zero weeds.
- Gravel with edging — cottage-garden aesthetic, cheapest.
- Stepping stones in grass — informal, garden-route friendly.
Why proper path installation matters near houses
Paths alongside houses are the #1 damp-ingress cause we see. Bad fall (path slopes toward the wall), no DPC clearance (path finish within 150mm of the damp-proof course), no drainage channel — and moisture wicks up the wall forever.
Our install: fall 1:60 away from house minimum, 150mm below DPC always, channel drain where the ground slopes toward the building. No exceptions.
